Autumn 2018
Welcome to the Autumn term!
By far our most well attended events have been workshops in Putney during school holidays so this is the format for the autumn and winter. while term-time week-end talks in Epsom will be paused. Let me know your thoughts on this. The committee would welcome volunteers so that we can run more events and spread the word.
Meanwhile there is a great line-up of workshops for the bright and motivated child. To book a place please reply to this email. Payment on the day. See the diary.
Surrey Explorers meet on occasional Sundays 10.30 - 12.30. Primarily directed at 8+, younger children are welcome too. Activities are interactive, intended to inspire new interests and introduce advanced concepts for the curious child who wants to learn more. Where possible we will be running a parallel discussion session for parents to share ideas and experiences.
Don't forget that we are now on Facebook. Come and join us: https://www.facebook.com/SurreyExplorers
Note that we now meet at Kingswood House School, Epsom.
Highfield School Bursary
Highfield is a co-educational preparatory boarding school in Liphook, Hampshire. They are seeking candidates for their Bursary scheme which are offered to children who would benefit from the academic excellence and pastoral care of Highfield and would otherwise not have the opportunity due to family finances. At least one pupil came through Surrey Explorers and they are always keen to have more. This summer two of their bursary children went on to Marlborough College, also on bursaries.
They are looking for children who for one reason or another are not currently reaching their potential. This could be because they are struggling with a difficult home situation, a learning difficulty, or are particularly bright and it’s difficult to give them the challenge or attention they require due to a lack of support at home or the other demands on the teacher in the classroom. The entry is for children starting Year 4, Year 5 or Year 6 in September 2018. Further information on the school's website.
If you would like to apply for the September 2018 bursary intake, please contact Susannah Schofield Tel: 01428 728042 Email:alumni@highfieldschool.org.uk
