Spring 2015

Welcome to the Spring term!

Welcome back to Surrey Explorers. Following the Creative Writing Summer School, an anthology of short stories has been published to showcase the students' work. Copies will be available at the next meeting at £2 per copy. As well as some extraordinarily creative pieces, it has a useful introduction with tips on how to write a good story.

The following information is from Denise Yates, CEO of Potential Plus UK:

Big Family Weekend - usually we run our Spring Big Family Weekend in Bedford over the first weekend of half term (which next year is 14/15th February). Unfortunately, as you may know, Bedford School (where we normally go) is not available. We have been having some difficulty (to put it mildly!) in finding an alternative school which can accommodate our needs. We have therefore made the decision to reschedule the Big Family Weekend to 28/29th March, which will give us more time to look for a suitable venue for the event. As soon as we have found a suitable venue, we will let you know. We will then move the Makers (tinkering weekend) to another slot in the calendar. In the meantime, as you know, we are always looking out for suitable venues. If you would like us to send you details of our requirements, just email us: amazingchildren -AT- potentialplusuk.org. I think that the problem is that a lot of secondary schools now have business managers who are looking for regular revenue from bookings. A weekend event once a year messes up their schedules. Perhaps we all need to think out of the box? We would welcome any suggestions.

Advance notice – We are now hoping to run weekends over the following dates:

Surrey Explorers meet on occasional Sundays 10.30 - 12.30 . Primarily directed at 8+, younger children are welcome too. Activities are interactive, intended to inspire new interests and introduce advanced concepts for the curious child who wants to learn more. Where possible we will be running a parallel discussion session for parents to share ideas and experiences.

We are now on Facebook. Please tell all your friends! https://www.facebook.com/SurreyExplorers

All events will be held at Kingston University, Education Faculty, Kingston Hill campus, off Kingston Vale (A308). Sat Nav postcode is KT2 7LB. Please visit our website at www.surreyexplorers.org.uk. During the sessions we have play facilities for younger siblings so you can bring the whole family.

Please do not hesitate to contact us if you have ideas for future sessions:

If you have anything you would like to see on the web site or any material we could use, please send it to the web-master:
